Dr. Basem Naim, a member of Hamas' political bureau in the Gaza Strip, mourned the death of French lawyer Gilles Devers, who passed away after a long illness.
Naim said on Wednesday: "We in Hamas received with great sadness the news of the death of French lawyer Gilles Devers after a long illness."
Naim expressed his sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, noting that Devers was a true supporter of the oppressed people, especially the Palestinians and their just cause.
Naim explained that Devers's courageous positions, especially after the Israeli aggression on Gaza in October 2023, will remain present in the memory of the Palestinian people.
"Devers contributed to the prosecution of the occupation in international forums, accusing them of war crimes and genocide, which led to the issuance of arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and his minister of war Yoav Galant," he said.
Naim stressed the importance of adhering to Devers's legacy, calling on the friends of the deceased and all the free people of the world to work diligently to achieve his dream of seeing the Palestinian people enjoy their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, with the return of refugees to their land.
